HELLO EVERYONE,
I have been reading about all you guys'es problems and i really feel your pain, BUT I THINK I FOUND A TEMPORARY SOLUTUION OR (permanent if you like). I have been playing eve off and on for about 4 years now and it is the ****nit, i am a veteran of Everquest and WoW. As everyone has commented everything started with the big trinity patch, before this patch i also never had issues with EVE, (I would even use two accounts in windowed mode, very stable). AFTER THE BIG PATCH, everythig went haywire- Logged on after patch and got into space, THEN FREEZE-CRASH-REBOOT. I tried several times and always the same thing somtimes i would get to undock sometimes it would freeze at loggon. I WAS ****ED, but i never thought of blaming EVE, for some reason. I started looking into the problem, and according to EVE-ONLINE , "there are some issues with the new patch". I read through their how to fix problem article, but it didnt seem to pertain to me, WINDOWS check, DIDN'T START PLAYING BEFORE THE PATCH END TIME (weird one) check, NOT RUNNING PREMIUM CONTENT check, DIDN'T MESS WITH SETTINGS check. After all that Still crashing! @%*@^, So after nearly killing my comp i noticed my hard-drive would make clicking noises when Logging into EVE followed by freeze-crash. Well im the kind of person that thinks of hardware not software when it comes to problems (unless its really obviuos), I FIGURED MY HARDRIVE WAS DYING ON ME. At the time i only had my harddrive, i had no spares, i looked around and found and old WD-Bigfoot (10 year old dive) loaded XP intstalled EVE, got to log-in Harddrive started clicling-FREEZE-CRASH-REBOOT. i WAS LIKE @%*@^ , what the hell is going on, THEN I REALIZED IT WASNT HARDWARE RELATED, so i started thinking of possible ways to work-around the problem, AND THIS IS WHAT I CAME UP WITH.
1) I uninstalled all EVE files (the self-created ones on your user profile also) I DIDNT SAVE ANY FILES 2) Since EVE had crashed twice from local harddrive, i thought well lets run this baby through My external WD-80 gig-USB 2 I go the latest EVE-FULL BUILD, and intsalled on the external drive. 3) Logged in though external, Eve came up fine no clicking from the external (good sign) then played for a long while no problems. 4) This brought me to the conclusion that the software error has something to do with the way EVE AND WINDOWS INTERACT ON THE LOCAL DRIVE ( i dunno what but thats what it seems like). 5) Was playing eve like this for the longest time, till my brother went out and got me a present, brand new WD-120 gig EIDE drive. 6) The old problem was still ringing in my head and i still had doubts about my old harddrive. 7) I took my old harddrive and i ran the latest WD diagnostics on it reformated came back with no errors (weird) 8) Took the new drive Loaded XP, copied EVE folder from Extenal, everything was looking ok, I never really did anything with eve for a bit mostly working skills. I undocked a couple of times jump gated buying some things, AND THEN ONE DAY I LOGGED ON AND THE NEW DRIVE STARTED CLICKING- FREEZE- REBOOT $t&@*.
Welll as you can see this is something that happens after a fresh istall onto a local drive and after EVE has been running for a bit.
SUMMARY,
Well as you can see i think EVE has an issue with Local drive communication, on my external i played for more than a month counltess misions never had a hick-up, i went back to that set-up and it works. I DUNNO IF THIS IS A TRUE FIX OR JUST SOMETHING THAT WORKS WITH MY CONFIGURATION, but i think you should try it out, see if it works for you , untill CCP can really get a fix in. (playing from a Net-Server might also work like this).
Thanks,
